Câu chẻ, hay còn gọi là Cleft Sentences, là một cấu trúc ngữ pháp dùng để làm nổi bật hoặc nhấn mạnh một thành phần cụ thể trong câu, chẳng hạn như chủ ngữ, tân ngữ, hoặc trạng ngữ. Mục đích chính của việc sử dụng câu chẻ là thu hút sự chú ý của người nghe/đọc vào thông tin quan trọng nhất, tách biệt nó khỏi phần còn lại của câu, vốn thường chứa thông tin đã biết hoặc ít quan trọng hơn.

Công thức chung của loại câu chẻ phổ biến nhất là It + be + thành phần nhấn mạnh + that + mệnh đề. Trong cấu trúc này, mệnh đề “It” đóng vai trò là phần chứa thông tin được nhấn mạnh, trong khi mệnh đề “that” mang thông tin đã biết hoặc bổ sung. Việc sử dụng cấu trúc này giúp câu trở nên sinh động và có trọng tâm hơn, đặc biệt hữu ích khi muốn truyền tải một thông điệp rõ ràng và mạnh mẽ.

Khi nhấn mạnh chủ ngữ là người, chúng ta có thể sử dụng “who” hoặc “that” thay thế cho nhau. Ví dụ, “It was my sister who/that won the competition” nhấn mạnh “my sister” là người đã chiến thắng. Tương tự, nếu nhấn mạnh tân ngữ là người, cả “whom”, “who” và “that” đều có thể được sử dụng linh hoạt. Chẳng hạn, “It was my mom whom/who/that I bought flowers for” làm rõ rằng “my mom” là người nhận hoa.

Đối với việc nhấn mạnh trạng ngữ chỉ thời gian hoặc nơi chốn, trong văn nói không trang trọng, “when” hoặc “where” đôi khi được dùng để thay thế “that”. Ví dụ, “It was only last Sunday when/that I was playing tennis with my sister” làm nổi bật thời gian diễn ra hành động. Tuy nhiên, cần lưu ý rằng “how”, “why” và “which” không thể được sử dụng để thay thế “that” trong cấu trúc này. Ví dụ, câu đúng phải là “It was by working hard that he passed the exam” chứ không phải “It was by working hard how he passed the exam”. Các Dạng Câu Chẻ Khác Ngoài Cấu Trúc It-cleft

Câu Chẻ Với “What” (Wh-cleft hoặc Pseudo-cleft)

Cấu trúc câu chẻ với “What”, còn được gọi là Wh-cleft hoặc Pseudo-cleft, là một dạng câu chẻ khác được sử dụng để nhấn mạnh một hành động, một sự việc, hoặc một ý tưởng. Khác với It-cleft tập trung vào việc làm nổi bật một thành phần cụ thể (chủ ngữ, tân ngữ, trạng ngữ), Wh-cleft thường nhấn mạnh vào nội dung của một mệnh đề. Công thức phổ biến của dạng này là What + mệnh đề + be + danh từ/cụm danh từ/mệnh đề.

Ví dụ, nếu bạn muốn nhấn mạnh rằng “điều cô ấy cần là sự yên tĩnh”, bạn có thể nói “What she needs is quietness”. Ở đây, “quietness” là thông tin được nhấn mạnh. Lỗi Thường Gặp Khi Sử Dụng Câu Chẻ Lớp 11
